How do I choose a Great Massage Therapist

Choosing a Great Massage Therapist comes down to three key points of consideration. Qualifications / Experience, Style and Personality.

Experience / Qualifications

Not all Massage Therapists are created equally. There are many different courses that offer massage qualifications. The minimum level of qualifications that most Private Health Funds accept is a Diploma of Remedial Massage Therapy. This is a minimum 2 year TAFE course. The reason that this is so important is that not only do the therapists get excellent skills but they also get trained in how to perform their art safely.

Style

The Style of Massage therapy that a therapist provides is also another area to consider. There are many different styles out there and they can be quite different. The most common is Remedial Massage Therapy. Some others include Thai, Shiatsu, Hot Stone, Kahuna, Pregnancy, Swedish, reflexology and many more.

Each different style offers their own benefits and different levels of effectiveness and firmness / depth. A general rule is that the more firm or deep a massage the longer the results will last. Ultimately it comes down to individual taste and desired outcomes,.

Personality

Massage Therapy is unique. You are removing clothing, lying face down on a table and letting a professional touch your body. Most people don't do that with strangers. So it is important that you find a therapist that you trust, feel safe around and resonate with.

Massage therapists are people. When you find a good therapist you tend to stick with them. Ultimately it is a relationship that builds between client and therapist. So you need to find a therapist who you are comfortable with and enjoy interacting with.
